Sean O'Malley says UFC has zero interest in him boxing Devin Haney: 'No one knows him'

UFC bantamweight champion Sean O'Malley doesn’t see Devin Haney as a lucrative boxing match. O’Malley traded barbs with undisputed lightweight boxing champion Haney, most recently seemingly agreeing to fight him . Haney is currently scheduled to challenge Regis Prograis for his WBC super lightweight title Dec. 9. Alright let’s meet up https://t.co/4WACnHyRQy — Sean O'Malley (@SugaSeanMMA) October 28, 2023 O’Malley has expressed interest in boxing Gervonta Davis, who knocked out Ryan Garcia in April. But after going back-and-forth with Haney on social media, O’Malley said the UFC isn’t on board with the idea. “The thing about Devin Haney is like, I’m not trying to throw shade or anything, but I’ve legit literally never watched him box one fight ever,” O’Malley said on his “TimboSugarShow” podcast. “I didn’t even really know who he was until more recent. “Like him, Gervonta, there’s a guy named like Shakur (Stevenson). I talked to the UFC about a potential boxing fig

Video: Should Francis Ngannou focus on boxing instead of MMA after Tyson Fury fight?

Hardly anybody gave Francis Ngannou a chance in his boxing match with Tyson Fury. A former UFC heavyweight champion making his boxing debut against the reigning WBC heavyweight champion widely considered to be the greatest heavyweight boxer of his generation? How could Ngannou possibly last? And yet, that’s what happened this past Saturday as Ngannou went all 10 rounds with Fury and shockingly scored the only knockdown of the fight in the third . Ultimately, Ngannou lost a split decision to Fury , but the fact that one judge scored the fight in his favor is an incredible moral victory. Ngannou shook up the sports world with his unexpectedly sterling performance, which has many observers calling for him to pursue boxing. Ngannou, of course, signed a contract with the PFL earlier this year, with a planned debut for the first quarter of 2024. But ould Ngannou be wise to focus on boxing and ditch MMA altogether?  Our “Spinning Back Clique” panel of Mike Bohn, Danny Segura and Brian

Diego Lopes high on Loopy Godinez's potential: 'She has what it takes to be UFC champion'

Loopy Godinez is on her way to UFC gold, at least that’s what Diego Lopes confidently believes in. Godinez recently entered the promotion’s official strawweight rankings with her dominant win over Elise Reed this past September at Noche UFC. Lopes, who’s one of Godinez’s main coaches at Lobo Gym and also a fellow UFC fighter, believes that was just part of the path that to eventually take the Mexican fighter to the title. Lopes sees a ton of potential in Godinez, and he won’t shy away from voicing it. “When our coach saw her, and Pancho has a lot of vision, when she stopped by a week, then 10 days, then another week, and she was going back and forth between Canada and Mexico, Pancho said, ‘She has what it takes to be a champion,'” Lopes told MMA Junkie in Spanish . “Wherever she decided she wanted to train, we were always going to be there to help get there. So anyway, the first fight she worked with us was for one of her UFC Apex fights, and Pancho was training with her, an

Demetrious Johnson prefers Francis Ngannou in boxing: 'There's nothing left for him to do' in MMA

Former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson would rather see Francis Ngannou stick to boxing after his impressive debut. Former UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou looked far from inexperienced when he lost a close split decision to Tyson Fury in their crossover boxing match this Saturday in Saudi Arabia. Ngannou went toe to toe with Fury and even knocked him down in Round 3. Johnson, the current ONE Championship bantamweight title holder who accurately predicted that Ngannou would drop Fury, thought Ngannou won the fight. After Ngannou proved that he could compete with perhaps the best heavyweight boxer of his generation in Fury, “Mighty Mouse” thinks Ngannou should continue riding his momentum. “What’s next for Francis? I don’t think I want to see Francis do mixed martial arts,” Johnson said on his YouTube channel . “I know that might be hard to hear, but I don’t see why PFL cannot do boxing. Why not PFL do boxing? You have one of the biggest stars in boxing right now, Fran

Francis Ngannou: 'Really serious' discussions taking place about Deontay Wilder – but not in boxing

Francis Ngannou vs. Deontay Wilder is a fight many have suggested, and it seems that there’s interest in making it happen – but not under the terms many expected. Ngannou said Monday there have been talks of a potential fight against Wilder, but in an MMA cage. Wilder, a former WBC heavyweight champion and one of the most popular names in boxing, has shown interest in fighting in MMA, according to Ngannou. “That has been in the discussion,” Ngannou told Ariel Helwani on Monday. “That’s something that can potentially happen. Deontay Wilder for a couple of months, or a little while, has been training MMA because there’s an option here. Nothing is set, but some things have been coming to my attention, so that’s something that makes sense. “He’s really serious about MMA. A lot of people talk – ‘I’m going to do this in boxing and do that in MMA’ – but Deontay Wilder is very interested in MMA, and even just to step in the (cage) for MMA and MMA only. It’s going to be hard. It’s going t

Daniel Cormier: After showing vs. Fury, Francis Ngannou can box Deontay Wilder and 'nobody would bat an eyelid'

Daniel Cormier thinks Francis Ngannou has endless possibilities in boxing after his impressive performance against Tyson Fury. Former UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou lost a close split decision to Fury in their crossover boxing match Saturday in Saudi Arabia. Not only did Ngannou push Fury to the brink, but he knocked him down in a fight many people thought he won. Although Cormier scored the fight in Fury’s favor, he commended Ngannou for proving doubters wrong and going toe-to-toe with the WBC champion. He thinks Ngannou’s stock rose so much that no one would have an issue if he was matched up against someone like Deontay Wilder next. “I thought Tyson Fury won that fight 95-94,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel . “We all thought that by leaving the UFC and the guaranteed amount of money he was going to make, Francis Ngannou was making a mistake. When he got this fight, you kind of had to eat crow. Now he has gone not only into that fight, but he’s over-delivered in that

Conor McGregor: Oleksandr Usyk an ask for Tyson Fury, but he's not 'as powerful as Francis Ngannou'

Conor McGregor thinks Francis Ngannou has unique power – even as a boxer. Former UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou knocked down Tyson Fury , but lost a close split decision in their crossover boxing match Saturday in Saudi Arabia. McGregor commended Fury for withstanding Ngannou’s power and doesn’t see his next opponent, Oleksandr Usyk , presenting the same type of danger in their title-unification bout. “I’ll tell you what, heavyweight boxing is awesome and add Ngannou into that mix now because there will be no trouble to make Ngannou-(Anthony) Joshua, Ngannou-(Derek) Chisora here beside me,” McGregor told TNT Sports Boxing . “There will be no issue. … There’s another heavyweight contender in the mix in Ngannou. Well done. “Tyson has a chin on him – Jesus Christ. Usyk is an ask now, but I don’t think Usyk is as powerful as Ngannou. I’m telling you, Ngannou has been sending heads to the ceiling in mixed martial arts. See those uppercuts in the clinch?” McGregor thinks Fury also

Tyson Fury critical of performance in split decision win vs. Francis Ngannou: 'My timing was quite off'

Tyson Fury is happy he got by Francis Ngannou , but admitted it was one of his toughest fights. Despite many discarding Ngannou’s chances of even making to the final bell against Fury, the former UFC heavyweight champion knocked down Fury and took him to a close split decision ruling in their crossover boxing match Saturday in Saudi Arabia. Fury, who holds the WBC heavyweight title, said it wasn’t one of his best nights. “I felt my timing was quite off,” Fury told Boxing King Media . “I’ve been out of the ring for nearly a year – a little bit of ring rust, but it was what it was. It was far from one of my best performances. It wasn’t a vintage Tyson Fury, but listen, you do what you have to do to get through and on to the next one.” To the surprise of many, Ngannou knocked down Fury in the third round and gave him a competitive fight in the following rounds. It was by far the biggest and most significant shot of the fight. Fury said the shot was to the back of the head, and that

Report: Khamzat Chimaev has torn ligament after UFC 294, not broken hand

Khamzat Chimaev ’s road to the UFC middleweight title may have gotten a speed bump. The unbeaten contender, presumed to be next in line for new champion Sean Strickland after his win over Kamaru Usman at UFC 294, will be out for at least a month with a torn ligament in his hand, according to a report from UFC broadcast partner ESPN . After his win over Usman (20-4 MMA, 15-3 UFC), a unanimous decision in Abu Dhabi eight days ago, Chimaev (13-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) said he thought he broke his right hand. But his manager told ESPN he’ll be in a brace for four weeks, then will see how the hand feels. Strickland (28-5 MMA, 15-5 UFC) pulled off a major upset when he outworked Israel Adesanya for a lopsided unanimous decision to win the title at UFC 293 in September. He was vocal after Chimaev’s win over Usman that his likely next opponent hadn’t done enough, in his estimation, to warrant a title shot – particularly because he was fighting an opponent who was debuting in the weight class on less

Chael Sonnen rips scoring in Francis Ngannou's loss to Tyson Fury: 'Boxing is not a real sport'

You can add Chael Sonnen to the list of MMA fighters who aren’t happy with the ruling in the Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou crossover boxing match. “Boxing is not a real sport,” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel . “That hurts me. That hurts me to say, but there’s no way to deny that.” Sonnen, a former UFC title challenger, made those comments after he saw Ngannou lose to Fury with a split decision in a fight in which he scored the only knockdown and, to many, did enough in subsequent rounds to get his hand raised. “A man’s body of work deserves to be recognized, and it deserves to be recognized accurately,” Sonnen said. “That is disgusting, what they just did to him. Anybody would’ve been wise to predict that that was going to happen. There was no chance that boxing was going to allow him to come in and get that win if it went to a decision.” Related Tyson Fury's split decision win over Francis Ngannou gets reaction from father John, brother Tommy Kamaru Usman: Boxi

Tyson Fury's split decision win over Francis Ngannou gets reaction from father John, brother Tommy

Two key Tyson Fury family members were proud with what they saw from him Saturday. The WBC heavyweight champion came back from adversity to defeat Francis Ngannou by split decision in a non-title bout in Saudi Arabia. Tyson was knocked down in the third round of their fight, which was ex-UFC champ Ngannou’s boxing debut, but came back to win a decision over the remaining seven rounds of the fight. Tyson’s father John and his boxer brother think Tyson displayed the “heart of a champion” and why he’s considered by many to be the best boxer in the heavyweight division. Frustrated Conor McGregor vents about UFC return, gives timeline: 'I've been kept from my living'

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – Conor McGregor was in attendance to watch Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou box Saturday – and his competitive juices were flowing. Recently readmitted into the UFC drug-testing pool , McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) will be eligible to return to competition in April. A fired-up and frustrated McGregor indicated there will be no wasted time after that. “I’m happy with April,” McGregor told MMA Junkie and other reporters on the event’s red carpet. “I would’ve loved it earlier, but if I’m to be honest and be realistic, for my fans, I want to put in a good run, build myself back, and that’s it. It’s looking like April, mixed martial arts.” McGregor directed much of his fire toward his nearly three-year layoff and recent delays that seemingly stemmed from the UFC’s anti-doping partnership with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), which will terminate at the end of the year. “I’ve been kept from my living for almost three years now,” McGregor said. “Understand that
