Hardly anybody gave Francis Ngannou a chance in his boxing match with Tyson Fury.
A former UFC heavyweight champion making his boxing debut against the reigning WBC heavyweight champion widely considered to be the greatest heavyweight boxer of his generation? How could Ngannou possibly last?
And yet, that’s what happened this past Saturday as Ngannou went all 10 rounds with Fury and shockingly scored the only knockdown of the fight in the third. Ultimately, Ngannou lost a split decision to Fury, but the fact that one judge scored the fight in his favor is an incredible moral victory.
Ngannou shook up the sports world with his unexpectedly sterling performance, which has many observers calling for him to pursue boxing. Ngannou, of course, signed a contract with the PFL earlier this year, with a planned debut for the first quarter of 2024.
But ould Ngannou be wise to focus on boxing and ditch MMA altogether? Our “Spinning Back Clique” panel of Mike Bohn, Danny Segura and Brian “Goze” Garcia answer that question with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia.
