Khamzat Chimaev: Paulo Costa is 'sh*t,' will lose to Ikram Aliskerov at UFC 291

Khamzat Chimaev doesn’t see Paulo Costa getting past Ikram Aliskerov at UFC 291. Costa (14-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) is booked to face Aliskerov (14-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) on July 29 at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City. Chimaev handed Aliskerov his first and only loss when he knocked him out with an uppercut in 2019 in what was just the fifth professional fight of Chimaev’s career. Aliskerov since has won six straight and most recently scored a first-round knockout of Phil Hawes in his promotional debut at UFC 288. Former title challenger Costa is considered a big step up in competition for Aliskerov, but Chimaev sees the Sambo champion getting his hand raised. Chimaev and Costa were on a collision course – even getting into an altercation at the UFC Performance Institute , but were never booked to fight. “Paulo has spoken a lot of sh*t about me,” Chimaev said on his YouTube channel. “That guy, I want to smash him. I want to kill this guy. I was doing a lot of things, and he wants to fight w...

Alexander Volkanovski wishes he faced Conor McGregor at 145 pounds: 'I've beat every other champion in the division'

Alexander Volkanovski would have loved to fight Conor McGregor at featherweight, but not for the obvious reasons. Featherweight champion Volkanovski (25-2 MMA, 12-1 UFC) holds wins over the division’s most notable names, like former champions Jose Aldo and Max Holloway, as well as former title challengers Chad Mendes and Chan Sung Jung. One of the big names that has eluded him is former featherweight champion McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC), who moved up in weight after he dethroned Aldo with a 13-second knockout. “It’s pretty easy for me in saying Conor McGregor because he was in featherweight,” Volkanovski said on The MMA Fan Podcast. “He was a featherweight. We’ve got to remember the champions I’ve beat. I’ve beat every other champion in the featherweight division. “The only champ I haven’t fought in the featherweight division is Conor McGregor. Conor McGregor in his prime in featherweight division would obviously be the all-time – I’m sure everyone would want to see that right...

Video: What's the best fight from the UFC 291 and UFC 292 bookings?

The UFC announced a slew of new fights this past week for a pair of pay-per-views on opposite sides of the country. UFC 291 is set for late July in Salt Lake City, and UFC 292 goes down three weeks later in Boston. Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje will rematch for the “BMF” title in the UFC 291 main event. And that main card also includes Alex Pereira ’s light heavyweight debut vs. Jan Blachowicz in the co-headliner, Paulo Costa vs. Ikram Aliskerov, Tony Ferguson vs. Bobby Green and Michael Chiesa vs. Kevin Holland. At UFC 292 on Aug. 19, two title fights headline the bill. Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling takes on Sean O'Malley in the main event, and women’s strawweight champ Zhang Weili takes on Amanda Lemos in the co-feature. But which of those fights stands out as the most interesting in this early look ahead? Our “Spinning Back Clique” panel of Mike Bohn, Danny Segura and Brian “Goze” Garcia weighed in with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia. You can watch the...

Extremely motivated Tom Aspinall describes himself as a 'completely different' person after knee surgery

UFC heavyweight contender Tom Aspinall is preparing to make his second consecutive walk to the O2 Arena for a marquee bout, but he says this time a completely different version of himself will be inside the cage. At UFC Fight Night 208 last July, Aspinall suffered a nasty knee injury after attempting a hard leg kick on Curtis Blaydes, which resulted in MCL and meniscus tears, and ACL damage. The injuries required surgery and physical therapy to get back on track, which he admits was a frustrating process. Now Aspinall is ready for action, and anxious to correct the record when he steps into the same octagon on July 22 to face Marcin Tybura in London. “I feel like I need to go back to the O2 Arena and absolutely spark someone,” Aspinall told BT Sport . “And I’m itching to do it to like right that wrong. I want to knock someone out in the O2 Arena. … I couldn’t be happier that they’re putting me on the O2, as a main event as well. The same spot that it happened. Almost a year later to...
