Sorry, Jim Miller, Bruce Buffer is politely declining your 'F*cking' UFC 300 intro request

Jim Miller got the spot on the historic UFC 300 card that he was pushing for, but it appears that’s where the fulfillment of his wishes will end. Miller (37-17 MMA, 26-16 UFC) said earlier this month, prior to his most recent bout at UFC Fight Night 234, that he wanted Bruce Buffer to introduce him as “Jim ‘F*cking’ Miller” when he steps into the octagon to take on Bobby Green at the April 13 event from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. “Doing that in front of the T-Mobile full of fans would be awesome,” Miller said. “I think that would get me super fired up.” Jim Miller REALLY wants Bruce Buffer to announce him as "Jim 'F*cking' Miller" at #UFC300 . "I earned that nickname by the way that I do business inside the octagon." pic.twitter.com/v3kT8hqe7f — MMA Junkie (@MMAJunkie) January 14, 2024 The request gained plenty of traction online and excitement from Miller himself that it could happen. However, longtime octagon announcer Buffer isn’t sold. “I

Video: UFC 300 is stacking up nicely, but what will be the main event?

UFC 300 is right around the corner, and the card is stacking up to be one of the best in a while. The April pay-per-view in Las Vegas is already filled with fights that could easily headline a Fight Night event on any given weekend, aside from the strawweight title fight and BMF title fight that will be on the main card. UFC CEO Dana White has teased the promotion has a spectacular main event in store, but who will it be? Will it be Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler, or will Leon Edwards defend his welterweight title against Belal Muhammad? Is there another option at play here that we’re missing? What about the undercard? There’s still room for a few more fun matchups. Our “Spinning Back Clique” of Mike Bohn, Nolan King and Brian “Goze” Garcia discuss what would be best to round out the lineup with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia. You can watch their discussion in the video above, and check out this week’s full episode below on YouTube. For more on the card, visit MMA Junkie

Michael Page says to expect an entertaining walkout at UFC 299

Michael Page assures fans he’ll still get to have his signature walkouts in the UFC. The former Bellator star makes his octagon debut against Kevin Holland (25-10 MMA, 12-7 UFC) March 9 at UFC 299 from Kaseya Center in Miami. Page (21-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is known not just for his flashy fighting style, but his flashy entrances. MVP says the UFC is well aware of what he brings to the table and is happy that they’re willing to hear him out. “A hundred percent,” Page said on having a fun walkout in an interview on the UFC’s YouTube channel . “I think that’s part of the package that the UFC have kind of brought into, as well. They know that that’s what I come with. I think they accept that already. I’ve spoken to some of the guys. I need to have a few more conversations. “But they’re already very open, like, ‘OK, let me know, how can we make this the best event for yourself?’ And just that kind of lingo and talk just means that, OK, these guys are open to allow me to really express myself

Dana White: 'Journeyman' Jim Miller has made 'millions of dollars' in UFC, never would in boxing

According to UFC CEO Dana White , Jim Miller ’s long-tenured career has made him millions. Miller (37-17 MMA, 26-16 UFC) holds the UFC record for most fights and wins in company history. In his most recent outing, he submitted Gabriel Benitez at UFC Fight Night 234. The 40-year-old has competed 46 times in the octagon, earning $50,000 bonuses in 15 of his fights. “When you become a world champion, you become a partner,” White said on “The TRUTH Podcast” with Vivek Ramaswamy. “When you got a belt, you share in the pay-per-view revenue. Boxing does (it too). Whoever is the champion in boxing, you get the lion’s share of the revenue. Here, it’s dispersed through across everybody. We got a guy right now who’s 40 years old, and he’s on this hot streak, man. “His name is Jim Miller. He’s been around forever. He’s been around since, like, we bought the company, and he’s still fighting. He’s going to fight on UFC 300, and this is a guy who’s been – I guess you could call him a journeyman

Video: Was Kayla Harrison's UFC signing the right move all things considered?

In news that came as a surprise, UFC CEO Dana White announced the promotion’s signing of Kayla Harrison last week and that her debut would come against former champion Holly Holm at UFC 300 – at bantamweight! Harrison, a two-time PFL champion at lightweight, has never fought at 135 pounds and most certainly leaves a superfight with Bellator featherweight champ Cris Cyborg on the table after leaving for the UFC. All things considered, was signing with the UFC the right move for Harrison? And how big of a loss is this for the PFL? Our “Spinning Back Clique” of Mike Bohn, Nolan King and Brian “Goze” Garcia answer those questions with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia. Robert Whittaker 'not really' worried about Paulo Costa pulling out of UFC 298

Former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker is confident that Paulo Costa will fight him at UFC 298. Whittaker (24-7 MMA, 15-5 UFC) takes on Costa (14-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) in the Feb. 17 co-main event at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. Costa has had five fights canceled or rebooked in the past couple of years – including against Whittaker at UFC 284, when the fight fell through due to Costa failing to come to terms on a new deal. Despite Costa’s inactivity, Whittaker remains unfazed. “Not really,” Whittaker said on “The MMA Hour.” “It’s always so funny with contracts and contract signing. I didn’t even realize that was a thing? ‘I haven’t signed’ or whatever. UFC comes here and they say, ‘Hey, do you want to fight X on this date?’ And I say yes, right? When I say I’m in for something, that’s it, I’m down. Doesn’t matter whether I sign the contract today or sign it two days before the fight, I said I’ll be there, that’s what I’m doing. “Whether or not I was worried about it actuall

Ex-UFC title challenger John Dodson headlines BKFC's Albuquerque return as champ

Former UFC flyweight title challenger John Dodson continues to build his bona fides in the world of bareknuckle boxing and in March will headline a card as champion in front of his home fans. Dodson will put his flyweight title on the line against Dagoberto Aguero at BKFC 59, the promotion announced Monday. The event will take place March 29 at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, N.M., which is Dodson’s home city. “We love promoting events in Albuquerque, whether it’s the huge shows at the Tingley Coliseum or our tremendous sold-out BKFC Prospect Series event this past Friday night at the Revel,” BKFC president David Feldman said in a statement. “The deep local talent pool of great bareknuckle fighters and the overwhelming support we’ve received from local fans over the last two years makes Albuquerque one of the very best cities for BKFC. “John Dodson has looked sensational in his first three BKFC fights, but Dagoberto Aguero is a tough and talented Dominican with an impressive profe

Henry Cejudo ponders retirement if he loses to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 298: 'It's all or nothing'

A lot is at stake for Henry Cejudo at UFC 298. Cejudo (16-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC) meets the streaking Merab Dvalishvili (16-4 MMA, 9-2 UFC) Feb. 17 at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., with a main card that airs on pay-per-view following prelims expected on ESPN and ESPN+. Cejudo, who fell short to Aljamain Sterling in their title fight at UFC 288 , is contemplating hanging up his gloves again if he loses to Dvalishvili. “This is for the No. 1 contender spot,” Cejudo said on “The HJR Experiment.” “I think to have to lose it to Aljamain, I think if I was going to go maybe down the ladder, I would probably be done with fighting again because it’s just like the sport is hard, man. Training camps, having two kids, and things like that. … It’s all or nothing, man.” Cejudo retired in May 2020 after retaining his bantamweight title against Dominick Cruz. The former UFC dual-champion got the itch to return three years later where he lost a competitive fight to then champion Sterling this past Ma

'Salsa Boy': The hilarious story behind UFC heavyweight Waldo Cortes-Acosta's nickname

Waldo Cortes-Acosta ’s “Salsa Boy” nickname was not self-appointed – like every proper nickname should be. His curious fight nickname was earned and given by his teammates after a spicy story behind his cooking, not his dancing. Cortes-Acosta (11-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC), who fights in the UFC’s heavyweight division, hosted a party years ago at which he invited his friends and teammates from Ultimate Kombat Training Center in Arizona. “I dance well, yeah – but the nickname actually came from salsa I made for a party,” Cortes-Acosta told MMA Junkie in Spanish. “There were guys from Nicaragua, Mexico, Brazil, Colombians – all over the place.” Training with many Hispanic people, especially those from Central America, Cortes-Acosta knew he had to show out with the salsa given the high standards and high tolerance for spicy food at the party – and he might’ve gotten a bit overboard. “A friend of mine, who we call ‘El Chimmy,’ and he already fought in the UFC, tried the sauce, and before he was

Video: Yoshihiro Akiyama suffers first-round TKO loss in mixed rules bout vs. Nieky Holzken

Longtime fan favorite Yoshihiro Akiyama was stopped in his fighting return Sunday. The Japanese star quickly was dispatched by former Glory Kickboxing champion Nieky Holzken in the first round of their 187.25-pound catchweight bout at ONE 165 in Tokyo. Akiyama and Holzken competed in a three-round mixed-rules bout, alternating between boxing, muay Thai and MMA. The official stoppage came at the 1:40 mark of Round 1. Prior to this defeat at ONE 165, Akiyama fought and defeated fellow Japanese legend Shinya Aoki in an MMA bout in March 2022. Although already a known name in Asia, “Sexyama” made his fame in Ame

Video: Garry Tonon scores nasty, first-round rear-naked choke at ONE 165

Garry Tonon continues his campaign back to the ONE championship featherweight title. The grappling standout picked up a first-round submission win over Martin Nguyen on the main card of ONE 165 on Sunday in Tokyo. Tonon sank a nasty rear-naked choke at the 4:41 mark to get the tap. The 32-year-old also won a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for his finish. Below, you can watch Tonon’s submission win: COMPLETE A FRASE: Se não bater, ________! Tonon told MMA Junkie, in the lead up to the event, that he hoped to s ecure another title shot with a win at ONE 165. More ONE Championship! ONE 165: Sage Northcutt pulls out, so Shinya Aoki taps John Lineker in open-weigh

ONE 165: Sage Northcutt pulls out, so Shinya Aoki taps John Lineker in open-weight bout

ONE 165: Sage Northcutt pulls out, so Shinya Aoki taps John Lineker in open-weight bout After a bizarre circumstance in Tokyo, Shinya Aoki submitted John Lineker in the first round in a fight Lineker took on just a few hours’ notice. That’s the ending, but how it got there seems unique even for MMA. Aoki (48-11) was set to meet Sage Northcutt (12-3) in a 170-pound bout at ONE 165. The fight was the top-billed MMA bout on a card that, like most for ONE, offered matchups in disciplines other than MMA. But shortly before the fight, Northcutt pulled out due to “unforeseen circumstances” involving his cornermen. With no welterweight available to fight Aoki on that short of notice, Lineker (37-11), who most recently fought at 135 pounds, stepped up for an open-weight shot at what would likely have been instant legend status in MMA had he won. But three minutes into the first round, jiu-jitsu wiz Aoki thrilled his home fans in Japan with a face crank submission. Northcutt posted on Instag

Garry Tonon expects title shot with win over Martin Nguyen at ONE 165: 'Makes the most sense'

Garry Tonon feels he’s fighting for more than just a win or a loss on his record this Sunday. The standout grappler thinks his upcoming fight against Martin Nguyen is an unofficial No. 1 contender bout in the featherweight division. Tonon (8-1) and Nguyen (15-6) are scheduled to fight at ONE Championship 165, which goes down at Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan. If victorious, Tonon sees himself getting another shot at the ONE Championship title. “I don’t really see too many options for ONE Championship even if they didn’t want that for whatever reason, but I don’t know why (they wouldn’t),” Tonon told MMA Junkie. “I feel like it’s going to be the thing that makes the most sense, assuming I win this fight. “Thanh Le and Tang Kai are going to fight each other. The only thing that can happen – maybe, I guess – I mean, I would’ve won three fights in a row so it would seem kind of weird to me, but the only thing that I suppose you can argue is that Thanh could lose to Tang Kai and then ma

Mario Bautista hopes he gets Cory Sandhagen rematch before fighting for UFC title

Mario Bautista would love to cross paths with Cory Sandhagen again en route to a UFC title shot. Bautista (14-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) notched his sixth win in a row when he defeated Ricky Simon by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 234. With the aim of breaking into the UFC’s top 10 bantamweight rankings, the 30-year-old called out Rob Font . Sandhagen is on the cusp of title contention, and Bautista knows he’s not quite there yet. Bautista lost his UFC debut on short notice to Sandhagen in 2019 and relishes the opportunity to someday avenge that loss. “I definitely want to fight Cory Sandhagen before I fight for the title,” Bautista told MMA Junkie Radio. “That’s another one I want to get back for sure. But, like I said, I have to work my way up, and I would have to feel right about asking for that.” Bautista, who’s also ready to fight the likes of Henry Cejudo and Merab Dvalishvili, knows he isn’t in a position to be campaigning for those fights. However, it’s not a matter of comp

Megan Anderson wonders if Kayla Harrison's cut to bantamweight will affect strength vs. 'specimen' Holly Holm

If Kayla Harrison is too depleted after cutting down to 136 pounds, Megan Anderson expects her to struggle. Two-time PFL lightweight champion Harrison (16-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) makes her octagon debut against former UFC champ Holly Holm (15-6 MMA, 8-6 UFC) in a bantamweight bout at UFC 300 on April 13 in Las Vegas. Harrison will attempt to reach 136 pounds for the first time in her career. Despite that, the the two-time Olympic gold medalist judoka opened up as a big favorite against Holm . Anderson, who was taken down four times in a unanimous decision loss to Holm in 2018 , thinks Harrison could have a hard time against Holm if the weight cut takes a toll on her body. “With those weight cuts, too, will the strength be there?” Anderson said on her YouTube channel . “She likes to use her strength, she likes to use her physical prowess in her fights, but will that still be there dropping to a weight class that she’s never dropped before? “If she’s cutting a significant amount of weight

Carla Esparza denies retirement rumors, explains 'intelligent approach' to comeback

Carla Esparza is not hanging up the gloves. Rumors of the former UFC strawweight champion’s retirement began swirling after the algorithm-based X account UFC Roster Watch signaled Esparza (19-7 MMA, 10-5 UFC) was removed. “The Cookie Monster” addressed her career status in a post on Instagram Saturday, refuting those rumors as she continues to recover from giving birth to her first child. “I keep receiving messages so I wanted to clear it up,” Esparza wrote. “Maybe I was removed for inactivity. I am slowly biding my time and building my body and pelvic floor back up according to my PT’s recommendation. During the postpartum period there is relaxin and progesterone in the joints and their surrounding structures (especially since I am exclusively breastfeeding) which causes a slackening of the ligaments and can greatly increase the chance of injury during training. “Just trying to have an intelligent approach to my comeback and do everything in my power to avoid an injury setback.”
